I was born in Burlington Vermont, raised in the rural community of Underhill. My parents were divorced when I was a very young child. My father raised my older sister and I just off of Route 15. My father was a cobbler, a restaurant owner and an entrepreneur. While my father was juggling so many businesses and trying to raise his daughters, relief came from my grandparents. My grandfather had a well- respected excavating and home building business. I had my grandmother there for my peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and her famous cold steak. I had the joy of having many animals and a lot of room to run.
When life would get me down, I had a spot where I would sit and write poetry along the creek behind my house. Everyone knew if they couldn't find me I would be there with my pen and paper in hand writing all the thoughts that would run through my head. I had many friends that at one point became the center of my world. I owe a great amount to them for teaching me the meaning of true friendship. But like always there was something missing in my life, my mother. At the age of 15 I packed up everything a teenager would have and left the only security I ever knew, my family, my friends and my sister. While I was on the plane headed for Texas I remember thinking of the poem “The Road Not Taken”. I knew in my heart I had to travel this road or my life would not be complete. In the end I believe I was right. Taking everything that I learned from my father, and my grandparents, I knew the basis of my life had already been established. Now having my mother in my life and the close relationship with my father I felt like the richest kid in the world. I had my stepfather to teach me that blood did not matter. You can love & support a child even though he or she is not yours. That lesson it’s self made all the difference in my life. I married the love of my life at a very young age and became a stepmother to two precious little girls. My husband and I have 3 handsome sons. I can honestly say the trials in my life have made me a stronger woman and mother. With the knowledge of knowing the greatest accomplishments in my life stand before me (my children) is a concept I live with everyday.
